74th MSC President Announced

Leadership transition is here at the MSC. On April 21st, leadership throughout the MSC will be turning over, including the MSC Executive team and President. The outgoing president, Neha Deshmukh and incoming president, Monse Westrup have been hard at work ensuring a smooth transition and establishing new goals for the MSC.
Neha, graduating with a bachelors in accounting and a masters in finance, is capping off a four year experience in the MSC. Participating in the Conway-Fitzhugh International Leadership Seminar as a freshman, Neha was in the MSC’s boat from the beginning. Taking leadership and eventually the chairship of MSC Aggie Cinema in her sophomore and junior years, Neha has spearheaded programs such as MSC Aggie Cinema’s popular video streaming service. Reflecting on her experiences in the MSC, Neha said, “It was really nice to have a home away from home and making new friends that I was always able to turn to.”

Some of Neha and the MSC executive team’s many goals for this year included “building the MSC family, increasing recruitment and retention, committees utilizing MSC resources, fostering greater program engagement, and telling the MSC story.” While the final report on these goals is still being compiled, Neha and her team are confident they have made substantial progress in achieving these goals. When asked about her greatest accomplishment this year, Neha said, “I am the most proud of Monse and can’t wait to see her leadership flourish.” Monse and Neha met at the MSC Fall Leadership Conference, where the two connected, with Neha mentioning “it has been very rewarding to see how Monse has taken a goal, and watch everything fall into place.” After graduation, Neha will complete the CPA exam and is pursuing a finance or accounting job in the media and entertainment industry.
Monse, a senior biology major from Monterrey, Mexico is excited to take the reins of the MSC next year. Monse attended the University of North Texas for her first year of college, transferring to Texas A&M in the fall of 2021. Wanting to “leave college feeling like I made a difference somewhere,” Monse joined MSC Hospitality her sophomore year and directed the service subcommittee as an executive this past year. As MSC President, Monse wants to improve communication between chairs, committee members and members of the MSC executive team. By fostering a community of collaboration, Monse hopes to increase greater inter-committee program participation. Monse is excited to work with her new executive team and work to improve the MSC on many different fronts. “I still have so much space for growing,” she said. “I’m excited to continue taking ideas from different people as well as learn from everyone and tackle anything that comes my way.”
